  • Pinterest Pressure and Help from a Fav Podcast

My great-niece Scarlett just turned one. Her mom, Jessie, asked if I would make some cupcakes and a small “smash” cake for her birthday party. • Those Stupid, Bulging Eyes

Black and white image of a destroyed cat sculpture

For two years she stared at me with those stupid, bulging eyes. At first, I found her endearing. After all, she was mine. At the time of her creation, she reflected the best of my abilities. Yet now, she no longer felt “good enough.”  Her mere existence fed my insecurity, whispering, “Neither of us is […]

  • Fatherly Advice on Mark Making

I often credit my mother with guiding me to the joy of creating with my hands. Even though I am now a 51-year-old woman, mom still shares her latest crafting passions with me just like she did when I was five. Yet she wasn’t my only creative guide. My father taught me a few things […]

  • Sculpting the Fox: Behind the Scenes Video

About this project: Le Corbeau et le Renard (The Fox and the Crow), started with an idea to pair a cool wine cork from a bottle of “The Naked Grape” with a Bacchus fox. The finished piece is in the private collection of a friend, but I thought you might like to see behind the […]

  • Artistic Growth in 2020

A decade of sculpting in polymer clay has given me a certain confidence in my abilities. In each of those ten years, I felt my artistic voice becomes stronger as I embrace more experimentation. Each year, that is, except 2020. My year began in January with a beautifully designed visual roadmap of how I wanted […]

  • Winter Whimsy Planters

Pinterest is filled with gorgeous examples of whimsical winter-themed pots filled with warm lights and delicate curly willow branches. The look is lovely, yet until I have a clearer idea of what I want my personal take on the theme to be, I didn’t want to invest much money this year on my display. The […]
