Design Board: Retro 40s Bathroom Remodel
My husband gave me a rather curious look when I said that I wanted to create a “Hollywood Glam” Art Deco-inspired 1940s bathroom. Creating a design board can go along way in explaining a high-concept theme like this one to your spouse.
Collecting visuals allow you and your spouse to more clearly evaluate interior design options and work through the inevitable home decorating compromises that you need to make in a happy marriage. Boards can be virtual like this one, or they can be created on heavy card stock to hold photos, paint chips, fabric swatches, and other tactile pieces.
I planned my bathroom in 2009 during the dark ages before Pinterest. Exploring trends is so much easier now! For big projects, I usually start gathering my virtual image collection on a Pinterest board and then move to a pocket folder with swatches and samples as the project progresses
It is really fun to see how concepts evolve during the life of a project. Our bathroom became a happy marriage of my retro concept with my husband’s more modern sensibilities. I’ll share photos from the finished room in a future post.
Here is where I found the ideas for my original board:
