This fanciful owl ornament gushes with personality! He started life as a floral-patterned egg (photo below) before being magically transformed into an owl ornament with steampunk flair. I sculpted the details from Premo polymer clay over a hollowed chicken egg shell. For this piece, I wanted to play with contrast and pattern. I pictured the smooth floral pattern peeking out on one side of the bird with a more 3-dimentional textured finish on top.
The cobalt flowers are made from polymer clay canes that I sliced and smoothed onto a robin’s egg blue background layer. The coppery brown side has a the feel of old leather. Want to take him home?
