Creating with texture plates is one of those “go-to” things for many of us who work with polymer, yet I’ve never tried to design one of my own. Since “Texture Plates” was the theme for this month’s Polymer Clay Artists Guild of Etsy challenge I figured I would give it a whirl.

I used the tops of perfume and make up bottles as well as leather stamping tools to make the circle imprints. For the linear side, I used a bamboo mat for the background and cut out squares which I replaced with pattern squares that tied in with the large circles.

I love the design, but I hated the impression of it. It just lost the style when innies became outies. To get back to the original vision, I took a mold of the second version using Sculpey Mold Maker, which allowed me to create a duplicate of the original design.
