Pinterest is filled with gorgeous examples of whimsical winter-themed pots filled with warm lights and delicate curly willow branches.

The look is lovely, yet until I have a clearer idea of what I want my personal take on the theme to be, I didn’t want to invest much money this year on my display.

The planters that I used are deep blue, heavy clay pots that I bought a few years ago for $40 a piece at a local discount store. My husband and I sorted through the whole display to find two that matched!

To fill the large pots cheaply, I gathered a combination of evergreen branches and twigs from my backyard. Silver spray paint on the branches coupled with small blue lights and shatter-proof ornaments add a little sparkle. A few artificial floral sprigs that I purchased on clearance from a craft store chain rounded things out.

For one pot, I perched a twinkling lighted bird in the branches with its mate resting on the porch above. The second pot is guarded by a coordinating polar bear.

I wanted a little snow to fall before photographing my 2020 Christmas display, and our first storm of the season did not disappoint!
